THE 7 BEST LABOR DAY WEEKEND DESTINATIONS FROM NEW YORK CITY
As the final weeks of summer are quickly encroaching, there is one last hoorah holiday on the horizon.
With so many amazing cities in close proximity to New York, deciding where to spend a weekend getaway can be difficult. Luckily, I'm here to help you stop frantically Google searching "Cool places to visit for Labor Day Weekend," or maybe what's more realistic, "Cheap places to visit for Labor Day Weekend." Here are a list of 7 places to visit for every adult's favorite holiday:
1) FOR A CLASSIC AMERICAN VACATION: BOSTON (1 hour flight or 4 hour Amtrak train)
Boston runs on two things: history and sports. Combine the two together and you've got yourself a weekend full of Sam Adams (in both historical and beer contexts) and the Red Sox. Not to mention, Pearl Jam is playing at Fenway on September 2nd and 4th. What could be better?
2) FOR A WEEKEND FULL OF WINE: THE FINGER LAKES (1 hour flight to Syracuse + 1.5 hour drive)
If you're looking for something more tame, The Finger Lakes offer both top-notch wine and beautiful scenery. If you spend your holiday weekend in the Finger Lakes, not only expect plenty of wine tours, but also live music.
3) FOR A BUDGET FRIENDLY TRIP: WASHINGTON D.C. (1 hour flight or 3.5 hour Amtrak train)
D.C. is the perfect place to travel to if you're interested in museums, art, and politics. What's more: many of the museums have free entry, giving you the ability to hop around from the Renwick Gallery to National Gallery of Art without having to spend a dime.
4) FOR A RELAXING BEACH GETAWAY: MONTAUK (2 hours by car or 3.5 hours by LIRR)
Spend your weekend relaxing on the beach in Montauk—you won't regret it. On the off chance you want to escape the sun and sand, you can check out the Montauk Golf Course or sing and dance with FRENSHIP at the Surf Lodge.
5) FOR A WILD BEACH GETAWAY: THE JERSEY SHORE (1 hour by NJ Transit)
We've all come to know and love the Jersey Shore by way of Snookie and Pauly D, which is exactly why you should experience The Shore for yourself this Labor Day Weekend. Check out the infamous Seaside Heights Boardwalk by day and Club Karma by night.
6) FOR AN INTERNATIONAL TRIP NOT TOO FAR FROM HOME: MONTREAL (1 hour 25 min. flight)
Montreal is the place to go if you want to experience Europe without having to pay for the airfare. Not to mention, Montreal is just a short flight away from New York. Embrace the French Canadian culture in Montreal by indulging in the best croissants and poutine the city has to offer.
7) FOR A STAYCATION: THE BEAUTIFUL NEW YORK CITY
New York has so many events on during Labor Day Weekend, you don't even need to leave the city limits. From getting rowdy at Electric Zoo to getting cultural at the West Indian Carnival, there is something for everyone to enjoy during Labor Day in NYC.
